SEIU Michigan State Council Endorses Samuel Bagenstos for Justice
The Service Employees International Union Michigan State Council, which consists of four SEIU locals that together represent approximately 30,000 workers across the state, has endorsed Samuel Bagenstos in his campaign for Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court.
"I'm pleased to have received the SEIU's endorsement," Bagenstos said. "I have worked side by side with the SEIU for many years. When I worked in the Obama Administration, we fought together to stop devastating cuts to community-based health services. Since I returned to private life, I have continued to work with the SEIU to defend fair wages and collective bargaining."
Bagenstos has been nominated by the Michigan Democratic Party for one of the two Supreme Court seats up for election this November 6. He has been endorsed by many labor groups, including the Michigan AFL-CIO, the UAW, the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters, AFT-Michigan, Michigan Teamsters Joint Council 43, and Michigan AFSCME Council 25.
Bagenstos is a University of Michigan law professor who served as Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights during the Obama Administration.
