Teamsters and AFSCME Endorse Samuel Bagenstos for Justice
Samuel Bagenstos announced today that he has received the endorsements of the Michigan Teamsters Joint Council No. 43 and AFSCME Council 25 in his campaign to serve as a Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court.
“I am proud to be endorsed by the Teamsters and AFSCME, two unions with a powerful history of standing up for their members,” Bagenstos said. “I’m grateful for their confidence, and for the organization and grassroots energy they bring to my campaign.”
Bagenstos has a long record of fighting for the rights of workers.
In the landmark discrimination case of Young v. United Parcel Service, Bagenstos argued and won in the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of a UPS driver represented by the Teamsters. His victory set an important precedent underscoring the proposition that no woman should have to choose between a job and a healthy pregnancy.
And in a series of cases, most recently Janus v. AFSCME in the U.S. Supreme Court, Bagenstos has filed briefs defending against efforts to undermine unions and collective bargaining.
The Teamsters and AFSCME endorsements add to the many labor endorsements Samuel Bagenstos has received in his run for the Supreme Court. He has also been endorsed by the UAW, the Michigan AFL-CIO, AFT Michigan, and the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters.
